I'm a developer and consultant with a passion for user experience and interface design. I've worked with all sorts of systems and technology, and have seen what works for people and what doesn't when it comes to working with systems. My experience reaches from video editing to Java programming, graphic design to database development and though interviews and working with experienced and inexperienced users I've come to appreciate how people work with computers.
After college I worked a sales job for a short time before starting my own design and consulting business. This gave me my first look of stepping into many different businesses to see how people used their technology. I worked mainly with small businesses, helping companies take advantage of new technologies which could help them improve their workflows as well as teaching them how to use the software and systems that they already had in place.
While working as a consultant I also began teaching at ITT Tech on weekends. This was an excellent opportunity which allowed me to speak with people interested in learning new software. Working with students gave me a chance to observe how these self-motivated learners interacted with applications and systems that they had no experience with. It was a great picture of beginner users leaping into thought processes that they were completely unfamiliar with.
I eventually took a job working at 360Works, a database consulting company, where I expanded my skills and learned about database development and Java programming. Working as a consultant again I have had the opportunity to look into many different businesses to see how different companies interacted with technology, and the different levels of integration their software would have with their company. The very different companies and range of projects I have worked on has helped me further expand my knowledge of how people actively use, and would like to use, their different types of technology.
I love designing for the user, and my experience has put me in an excellent position to do just that. I love technology, but I also know that not everyone is familiar with it as I am. I hope to use my experience to help new users enjoy technology the same way I do through exceptional interface and user experience design.
